Easy like Saturday and Sunday morning

This weekend was so relaxing (kinda forced since the weather was mostly cold and rainy). We had a visit from Justin and my parents. Shawn got to have some brother time and they even did some shopping and shooting practice. Then we just watched movies the rest of the day. Sunday Dad, Shawn and Max picked up Maritza from the airport after her trip to D.C., Maryland and Boston. Then we had an awesome brunch at the Egg and I...followed by another really relaxing and beautiful Sunday!

Shawn and his boys. Tyson is actually feeling sick or maybe just in pain. I'm taking him to the veterinarian today to see what is going on.

Peanuts are not our friend

Today we had an appointment with a great allergist in Houston, Dr. Juan Zambrano. I was pretty sure Max had a peanut allergy after he had a taste of my toast with peanut butter about a month ago. He had a prick test done today...which he absolutely hated! He got over it quickly because they had cool toys and books to play with. They tested for a few other things like mold, mites, eggs, dogs, etc. But peanut was a definite. So I got information on products that are made peanut-free, peanut butter alternatives and a support group. I was really upset at first because I LOVE peanut butter, but it is just something we are going to have to deal with. Dr. Z says there is a possibility he may outgrow it, but i have an epi-pen at all times just in case. Other than this Max is doing great. He is learning sign language with the Baby Signing Time program. So far he has signed milk, water and daddy. He walks when he wants, but he still prefers to crawl.

Here is a picture of the prick test on his back. #58 was for peanut.

In other news, Shawn starts a new job on Monday. He is really excited! This is a job he has been working on for a while and its a career move he is looking forward to. There will be some travel involved, mainly Louisiana, but also France, Scotland, etc.. I hope he has a trip to France when the kids are bigger, so we can all go!

I have been having lots of fun designing and ordering things for baby girl's nursery. It will be pretty in pink! Can't wait for the things to come in so we can start decorating. Shawn was an integral part in designing Max's nursery, but he's letting me take the reins on this one. :o)

6 years!

For our 6th anniversary we finally went on our 2nd date night since Max was born. I know, we need to get out more!! We were happy that my parents came in to babysit so we could go out for a bit. Shawn took me to Churrascos in Houston and the food was so good! Then we went to a movie, again only our 2nd trip to a theater in a year. We enjoyed our alone time, but we definitely missed Max. I think we are one of those couples that just like to have our kids with us. Nevertheless it was good to get to some good conversation and romance back.

I love my husband for always being honest, loyal, funny, hard-working and the best Dad we could ask for. Looking forward to many more years and making memories.

Something new everday

It seems that since Max turned 12 months (which was about a week ago), he's been doing something new. So I am trying to keep track of these things since I plan to turn this blog into a book of memories. I have been signing to Max for a few months now, just a few things like milk, more, water, mom and dad. This week I was asking him to get his milk and he responded by giving me the sign, then going to get his milk. It was like an "ah ha" moment. Now I am so ready to start introducing new words. I hope this will ease frustrations when he wants to communicate with me. Also, I use these words in both English and Spanish, so I hope he'll learn both!

He has been mimicking what we say. This week he started saying "uh oh". I got so excited that I started accidentally dropping/throwing things just to get him to say it. Well, I think he assumed that you throw things and then say "uh oh". Not quite what I wanted, but it is still adorable!

This kid loves books! We have many board books and I make sure to take them to appointment and such to keep him entertained. I finally started reading Goodnight Moon to him before bedtime and he loves it. Loves to touch the books and squeals in excitement!

I know his little sister isn't here yet, but I had to get this shirt!

He loves interacting with us and other people. So cute to see his personality developing. I'm always giving kisses to Max and today for the first time, he brought his face and lips to mine and said "mmm". My baby kissed me!!! I was so excited I asked Shawn to get it on video. Of course at that point Max was over it and more interested in other things, but I still got in on video.

Ha, I ain't too proud to beg!

This weekend we took a quick trip to College Station to go to Chadito's 7th birthday party. Unfortunately, Max had a cold and being at an ice skating rink was making it worse, so we popped in and popped out. Great to see everyone though. Then we relaxed at my parents an got to spend time with them and Maritza. Nothing like pizza, Coke, ice cream and Forrest Gump!

Big Brother, Little Sister!

Today we found out we are having a girl! I was really surprised! During the sonogram, the tech was taking measurements first. As soon as I saw legs I was looking out for something....and I never saw it. So I blurted out, "Is it a GIRL??" She confirmed it, and we were going on and on with joy! Max even started clapping. Great family moment!

We celebrated with a fun lunch at Saltgrass, yummy!

12 month appointment

We made it to our appointment today and I think we were both a little anxious. We talked about sleep issues, pacifiers, breathing treatments and a possible peanut allergy (we go to an allergist in 2 weeks). Max is growing quickly and the doctor was happy with his development. They saved the worst for the end, 4 shots for my baby are no fun! Then to top it off, he got his finger pricked for some blood work. He was crying until about halfway home!! But as soon as we got home he saw Honey and his train set...it was as if nothing was wrong.

Stats:
Height 31.5 inches , 97% percentile .....He's grown 10 inches in 1 year!!
Weight - 23 lbs. 3 oz. , 50% percentile
