Routines

Kids do the darndest things. Tonight after bath, Shawn got Madeline ready for bed and I did the same with Max. It is so much easier for each of us to handle one, and I usually get Maddie out of habit. But it was refreshing to do the routine with Max that I did for 16 1/2 months without fail. So tonight after lathering him up with lotion I go to comb his hair. He has never really liked it, but I always do it anyway because he just looks so handsome. So tonight when I'm done I face him towards the mirror and say "Look how handsome Max is". He had a sheepish grin on his face, I guess getting a bit shy. Then he takes his hand to his hair and messes it up. And so begins a new era. I miss my little baby boy, but this new phase is bound to be interesting to say the least!

Speaking of bedtime, it is so hard with Max. He comes up with any excuse to stay up late, and we mostly give in. We both enjoy the special time with him right before bed. He is pretty demanding of what we do. He says, "Mama lay down" or "Lay down in Mama's room" or "Where's my milk?" or "Where's my cha cha?" (his word for pacifier). So we know we need to lay down the law at some point and I promise will. Just not tonight. :)

Now Madeline is a different story. These days its dinner, bath, bottle, bed. The only time she fusses is if she is too tired at dinner or the bottle doesn't make it to her mouth quick enough. I do believe that God is giving us a break with just one sleep issue at a time, we hope. We love both of our angels so much. Seeing their differences and their likenesses is so fun and rewarding, I wouldn't change it for the world!
